Sketch-A-Day 2012, Day 7

View halloo, peoples!

Well, we've hit the end of the first week of the Sketch-A-Day Project! *whew!* One week down, three more to go!

Recently, I went over and looked at the Sketch-A-Day 2011 Project artwork from this time last year, and noticed quickly that this year's sketches are much closer to more fully realized pieces... more like detailed thumbnails in preparation for eventual finished pieces. I've been very happy with the progression so far, my only hope now is that I can keep it up! Thank you all for coming along on this project with me, and I hope to not disappoint as the month progresses. I have greatly appreciated every comment left!

Well, enough of my blabber, and on with Day 7's offering!

The Archivist

This piece is almost cheating, as it is actually a revisit to a MUCH older sketch idea that has been floating around various sketchbooks since 2002... always the same general idea, but I never felt I was at the skill level to bring it to life the way I could see it in my head. I am much happier with this attempt, and this might end up the blueprint for the first attempt at the final piece.

Again, graphite and white pencil on toned, rough paper.

Sketch-A-Day Project Day 6 offering for you all!

I do hope you're all enjoying this month's Sketch-A-Day Project offerings! So far, they've all been quite a bit more involved and detailed than previous years' Sketch-A-Day images... not that I'm complaining! :)

As much as I like the general concept of this sketch, so much that it might be expanded into a finished watercolor one day, I have to say I really dislike drawing dragonfly wings. They're so oddly and inconsistently detailed.... *grr*

Ok, Tin.... dragonfly wings.

Sketch-A-Day 2012, Day 2

View halloo, peoples!

I'm not entirely sure when I'll set the second Sketch-A-Day Project, but the most likely time is halfway through the year. This will, however, depend on what the summer convention schedule looks like, but I will definitely include the prospective month in a future State of the Artist post.

Anyway, on with the post!

Today's offering for Day 2 of the 2012 Sketch-A-Day Project!

This one came to me complete with title: I'm Done Waiting for You

*This piece reminds me that I really do need to get to work on last year's "Tumor," I should tackle it after the Work-A-Week Project next month*

Sketch-A-Day 2012, Day 1

View halloo, peoples!

Welcome to the New Year! We say a not-so-fond farewell to 2011 a little more scuffed up and banged around than we were this time last year. Here's fervent hopes that 2012 brings us all happiness, health, success, and joy in the new year!

Thank you all for supporting this journal and my artwork over the last year, for joining me as we embark on another January's Sketch-A-Day Project! I'm thinking of doing this again in the middle of the year, after the madness of the summer con season, to get those creative synapses moving and firing again.

First up for the 2012 Sketch-A-Day Project is the Dragon King, fitting as it is the Year Of the Dragon.

For the curious, a surprisingly comprehensive overview of the dragon in the Chinese zodiac, including what influence the Western zodiac characteristics have on the Dragon
